Destination Walla Walla

This last weekend my wife was out of town so I decided that I should take the kids on a day trip. The destination was Walla Walla. Walla Walla is located in the south east corner of Washington State. The city has been revitalizing their downtown area for the past several years and as a result it has become destination spot for many people in the Tri-Cities area since it is only 45 minutes away. There are several coffee shops and if you need another reason to go to Walla Walla they also have a candy shop, a toy store, several knick knack shops and most importantly the most comprehensive Christian bookstore in all of Eastern Washington.

If you have recently been in any of the Parable Bookstores in the Tri-Cities you will know that the one thing they lack is books. Sure they have a plethora of charasmatic books as well as fiction books the the standard "Best Selling" Fad Books but what they lack are books of substance. They also fail in the Commentary department. Most of what you will find consists of Christian "Gifts" and music. Also I have noted a decline in the amount of Apologetics books on the various Cults and an increase in the amount of Roman Catholic paraphernalia. They seem to steer away from controversial convicting materials.

The store in Walla Walla is a "Christian Supply" chain however they are independently operated. They have many books by authors that are very difficult to find in the Tri-Cities such as Macarthur, Piper, Sproul, Schaeffer, Morris and many more. They also have a substantial amount of reference books and commentaries including the new Holman commentaries and the Macarthur New Testament Commentaries. After talking to the owner for a while I learned that he also has a store in Pendleton Oregon. He was well aware of the situation in the Tri-Cities and is contemplating advertising in the Tri-Cities since the Parable Bookstores are not doing their job in the realm of books. If you want to support a semi local Christian bookstore please take a trip to Walla Walla. It is worth the drive especially if you like good books. The store is located 115 E Main. Their phone number is (509)529-0810.
